Hi, my name is Angela Jones. I hate to do this and have never had to ask for help with anything. But my sweet Pekingese Millie has had a rough week. Millie is 3½ years old. I will start at the beginning and explain the whole story and what got us to this point.
We aren't exactly sure how the injury occurred. The vet thinks either a family member that didn't pick her up correctly,or from walking up or down some stairs, jumping off or on furniture, or just simply twisting the wrong way.
Monday night 11/8 she was kind of whining a little and when I woke up Tuesday she was not her happy self. She was walking slow and with her tail dragging the ground. Later that day she was shaking a little and not wanting to go outside to potty. So we took her to an emergency vet that night. They said it is possible IVDD but she may get better with meds and crate rest. So we took her home and I slept with her. Wednesday morning there were no changes but as the day went on she started having difficulty walking but was still going out to potty. Later in the night she lost full ability to use her back legs and couldn't sleep due to her pain.
Thursday morning I took her to the vet again and they had me immediately take her to an emergency vet to see a neurologist. I got her there and they immediately took her back. They did an exam, xray, bloodwork and then an MRI. The neurologist described it as one of the worst kinds of IVDD said she basically had a blowout in 4 disks and the force of the disks rupturing caused a blood vessel to sever which caused a massive blood clot on her spine.
Her chance at a successful surgery is 80 to 90%. They say she will have to be in a crate for a month. She will possibly walk differently. And we will have to change her lifestyle a bit such as no crazy rolling around with her peke sister.
I have never asked for help but she's still so young and such an important part of my life I just can't imagine life without her. If I pay this surgery (which I am) I will be struggling financially for a very long time. I don't even know how I will pay my bills or groceries. I spoke to the vet about having people call in payments directly and was told they don't normally do this but they did say they can verify that Millie is there and cost of her care if anyone calls and wants to confirm that I am real and not scamming. They are saying the total for everything should be about $7500. Prior to going to them I have spent $500 on vets and meds. If anyone could please help or say a prayer for my sweet girl I truly appreciate it and will pay it forward for the rest of my life every chance I get. Thank you so much for reading Millies story.
