On Sunday 2/8, our lives changed in an instant.
After months of appointments and tests for ongoing health issues (and repeated reassurance that everything was “fine”) we were sitting at a family dinner when Scott visibly began turning yellow. Within minutes, we were on our way to the ER. What followed was a week we will never forget.
After days in the ER filled with procedures, surgeries and endless testing, doctors found something we never expected: two separate primary cancers — Stage 4 lung cancer and pancreatic cancer — an extremely rare and devastating diagnosis.
Scott is finally home as of 2/14 and next week we begin a new normal — more testing, treatment plans and the long road ahead. We don’t yet have the full picture, but we do know this fight will require everything he has.
Scott is the sole provider for the Murphy family and right now he cannot work. If you know Scott, you know how much he loves his job at Pennair and how hard it will be for him to step away. He takes so much pride in providing for his family and this season will challenge him in ways none of us ever expected.
But more than that, Scott is the kind of person who shows up for everyone. He is a devoted husband, an incredible dad, a loyal friend, and the first person to offer help when someone else is in need. He is also a very proud Pap-Pap to three grandkids, a whole crew of grand-pups and grand-cats, with more Murphy grandbabies on the way in 2026. He gives his time, his energy, and his heart freely, never expecting anything in return.
If you know Scott, you also know he would never ask for help himself. So we are asking for him.
So many of you have reached out over the last week asking how you can support him. This is one way. Every donation will go directly toward medical expenses, treatments and easing the financial burden so Scott can focus fully on fighting this.
If you’re unable to give, please keep Scott, Missy, Justin, Colby, Dempsey, Noah and the entire Murphy family in your prayers. Your love, support, and encouragement mean more than we can put into words.
We are staying hopeful. We are leaning on our faith. And we are taking this one day at a time as we begin this fight.
