Making memories
Donation protected
Below is karens story, Karen doesn't want donations to pay for treatment in fact she's a huge advocate of our NHS and truly believes if she can get better anywhere it
Would be here within our health
Service, in fact Karen doesn't want your money for anything, we do, we want to send her and her family
To see her brother in oz!
Without our help neither of them can afford the journey!!
We will be doing a number of fundraising events from marathons to auctions, all donations and offers of help will
Be greatly received no matter how small,
If Karen's story tells
Us anything it's that life is just too short!
Karen's story......
I am 40 and i have an 18 year old a 15 year old and a 22 month old and life certainly began at 40 with a bang! On June 13th 2016 my world crumbled when after a colonoscopy i was given the devastating news i had inoperable bowel cancer.
I was too young in my head to have such a diagnosis. It was rare in our age group and i had a baby!
Telling my children that their mummy had cancer was the worst day ever! But i also told them that they knew their mummy was a fighter and would not give up ever!
Chemo commenced on 21st July 2016 and i attend for 2 days every 2 weeks and have my little friend the chemo pump on for 50 hours.
Its tough and its like the worst hangover ever but i am motivated by my 3 children to get up and keep going ( you have no choice with a toddler)
In October I had a life saving operation as my bowel had totally obstructed but I'll spare you all the gory details. Most importantly I'm still here
The treatment is going well but means i have had to give up work doing the job i have loved all my life which in itself was devastating.
Retired at 40 sounds like bliss till it happens to you!!
I have kept my journey to myself and those closest to me as I didn't want to be in the limelight or a topic of conversation but I was asked to write my story to share with you lovely lot about the journey I've had up to now.
When you're given such a diagnosis the only priority then apart from starting treatment as soon as possible, is to hold your loved ones close and spend as much time together as possible and make as many happy memories as you can.
This was not my idea but i am truly humbled that my old friends and new want to help myself and my family create these memories. Thank you from the bottom of my heart xxx
