As many of you know, Olga has been working with our family since Jordan was 4 months old. He is now almost 15 and a freshman in high school. Not only has Olga become an important part of our family over the last 15 years, but also her husband, Bernie, and kids (Asael, Sam and Emely), have become part our extended family. They are truly the most wonderful hardworking kind and loyal people. They spend their life giving back to their church every weekend and they have always given back to their family in Guatemala.
Sadly, last week her oldest son Sam (26) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphblastic Leukemia (ALL) and immediately started chemotherapy two days later. This type of cancer is very fast growing and needs to be treated quickly so Sam is receiving it every 12 hours. Unfortunately, he needs to stay in the hospital for the next 2-3 months while he is receiving Chemotherapy because serious infections or other complications can occur. This type of Leukemia (ALL) takes place in 3 phases and usually takes about 2 years of treatment so Olga and her family have a long road ahead of them. What is even more heartbreaking is that Sam had just got engaged and he was in the process of planning his wedding this spring.
Given that Olga and Bernie need to be at the hospital in order to care for Sam while he receives his treatment, their work schedules will be very inconsistent. Sam, Bernie, and Olga rely on their weekly incomes and don't have a lot of savings, especially to weather this incredibly tough situation. Although, the hospital helped Sam apply for Medicaid to help with the treatment, the family will still endure serious financial hardship as a result of this.
As a parent, there is nothing worse than seeing your child in pain or suffering. And, in these times, your child needs their parents to get through what will be a physically demanding and emotional treatment process.
We have put together this campaign to help Olga and her family. Most of your know Olga and what she means to our family. We are reaching out to raise enough money - $6,000 is our goal - to help ease the financial stress this will put on the family and allow them to be available and focused on helping Sam on his path to recovery.
