Family Farm Fire
Donation protected
On the night of February 8th, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law's quonset on their family farm burnt to the ground. They were asleep and their oldest daughter saw the color of the flames out her bedroom window. By the time they were all outside and the fire department had been called, it was completely engulfed in flames.
They have spent the last 15+ years building their farm and business from the ground up while raising their 4 kids and both working full-time off the farm.
They raise organic eggs, beef, and chicken, and have lost so much of their business in this fire. Inside the quonset were 2 skid loaders, a feed grinder, bulk oil, diesel fuel and tank, propane tanks, net wrap for round bales, 10 pallets of feed mix, all of the square alfalfa and brome hay bales for winter, as well as some straw, tools, and other farm-related tools (battery chargers, catch pans, etc) and their 3 livestock dogs.
Angie (my sister-in-law) was able to rescue 2 of the dogs but was burned in the process of trying to get to the 3rd. She was taken to Lincoln's Burn Unit by ambulance, but is home now and resting.
They are devested, to say the least, and are going to need some assistance, as the cost to replace the necessities is steadily climbing. Insurance will likely not begin to cover everything that was lost and there are still a LOT of days between now and the first hay harvest for 2023. They will need feed for their livestock, and skid loaders to keep their livestock pens clean. Angie will have medical bills and multiple deductibles for the multiple insurance policies.
If you know them at all, you know that asking for help is THE LAST thing they would EVER want to do, but watching them sift through the rubble is heartbreaking.
Thank you for sending all of your love and prayers. <3
