Love Needs No Translation
As many of you know Steve was diagnosed with Esophogeal Cancer this past year (believed to be caused by exposure to agent orange during his military service).
He chose to fight and underwent aggressive chemotherapy and radiation therapy in hopes to inhibit the spread of cancer in order for him to undergo surgery to remove the cancer. Unfortunately, the chemo and radiation was not enough and the cancer spread making surgery no longer an option.
Steve, along with his family, were forced to make the difficult decision of quantity vs. quality; to continue aggressive chemo and radiation and endure the harsh side effects, essentially buying him more time, or to stop all treatment for better quality of life so he can enjoy in his last memories with us.
With tremendous support from all around him, he chose quality of life; and stopped all treatments in the fall of 2019.
As we unfortunately expected, and anxiously awaited, Steve’s health has deteriorated significantly. This week has been especially challenging and we fear his end of life is near.
As many of you know, Wenda (Steve’s wife) is an essential worker and was not given the opportunity to stay safe at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite living with someone who is immune compromised. Wenda has exhausted all of her medical and leave time and is in a difficult financial position.
We started this page to raise funds so Wenda can stay safe at home and be by her husband’s side for his last months/weeks/days on earth. We do not believe Wenda should have to stress or suffer financially during this already difficult time. This is why we want to lift some of the financial burden.
If you know Steve or Wenda, you know they would never ask for help or money. This is why we took it upon ourselves, with Wenda’s blessing, to create this page. We want to show Wenda that she’s not alone and allow her to focus on what matters most right now which is being by Steve’s side.
