Gracie's Journey To Recovery

My name is Michele Duncan. I am campaigning to raise money to help my 4 year old niece, Gracie Michele Norris, and her family in their battle to Gracie's recovery. Saturday evening Gracie was seriously injured after a heavy, wooden entertainment center fell on her, striking the side of head, face, and eye. She immediately stopped breathing and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital in Whiteville. They placed her on life support and she was airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill Childrens Hospital. At 1a.m Sunday morning Gracie endured a 4 hour surgery to remove the damaged part of her skull and replace it with a metal plate. She also had reconstructive surgery on her eye and the side of her face that was damaged. We still don't know if she will have vision in that eye. Gracie is now in the PICU and still on life support. In the past 24 hours there has been some swelling on her brain. The doctor wants to get the swelling under control and give her body time to heal before allowing her to wake up. Right now different combinations of medications are being tried to reduce the swelling in hopes of avoiding another surgery. At this point it's just a matter of praying, watching. and waiting. Gracie's parents, Katherine and Shane Norris are my little sister and my brother in law. She also has a 1 year sister, Malorie Norris. Gracie's mom and dad have been by her side every second. Katherine and Shane are dedicated parents and truly wonderful hard working people. The kind of people that would give the shirt off their back to anyone in need. I know this to be true from personal experience. But this time they are the ones in need and their precious daughter is in need. Katherine and Shane desperately need to be able to stay by their daughters side in her fight to full recovery ( which will no doubt be a long one) without any other worries. The most daunting worry being the burdensome medical expenses that increase every day that they are in the hospital and out of work. I fully believe that the good Lord is going to heal Gracie and bring her to complete recovery! I also believe that we are called to help those in need when we can. Anything that you are able to do to help this precious family during this difficult time would be such a huge blessing and appreciated more than words can possibly express.
