Urban Plunge 30th Anniversary
2015 is the 30th anniversary of our service project trip "Urban Plunge". Please help us wrap our trailer to commemorate this anniversary. This trailer was donated two years ago to the Youth Ministry of St. Catherine's to help us bring all the necessary tools and supplies to fulfill our trip each year.
The vision of this trip started 30 years ago by Monsignor Vincent Haut to bring young adults (high school age) on a mission trip to help people in need in a foreign country. He asked the Youth Minister at that time, Maryann (Wymer) Dufresne, to make this vision come true. Little did he realize, Maryann's vision for a mission trip was slightly different than his. Maryann recognized the needs closer to home, just 45 miles away from Orange Park in St. Augustine. She knew that there were many people in need just outside the main tourist areas of historic St. Augustine. And so the story began with a couple of adults and a handful of teenagers, 30 years ago. The trip has grown into two, one-week trips, each summer with approximately 14-16 adults and 32-34 teenagers on each trip. The volunteers paint houses, do yard work, build wheelchair ramps, do home repairs, and any other projects that fit the skill sets of the volunteers.
Please help us to wrap our trailer so we can proudly display our faith and committment to the community of St. Augustine as we continue our mission of helping others in need right here in our local community.
We urge all Urban Plungers past and present to make a contribution to this cause. Any funds collected in excess of our goal will be used to purchase tools and other supplies needed to continue our mission. Please spead the word about our goal to other Plungers by posting the link on Facebook or other social media.
