Weeks ago, I was supposed to return to my country after three years living abroad. The reason for my trip was one of the hardest of my life: the death of my father. I was going back to be with my family during this painful time. However, an unexpected accident changed everything and made the situation even worse. While crossing the road, I lost my balance and fell violently to the ground. At that moment, I didn't understand what had happened until I arrived at the hospital. After taking X-rays, the doctor confirmed that both tendons had ruptured, causing me to lose control, and that the hard fall had broken both knees. For this reason, I had to have emergency surgery the day after the accident. After the operation, my health insurance informed me that my plan didn't cover the surgery and only included a minimal portion of the hospitalization costs. To at least cover the hospitalization, I was forced to pay $10,000. Even so, I was hospitalized for seven days, as after that time the hospital started charging $1,600 per day. In my condition, unable to move or care for myself, I had no other option. All our savings and credit cards were used to cover basic expenses such as rent, food, physical therapy, and medical checkups. Today our resources are depleted, and the hardest part is that I still can't return to work. I've been living in Australia with my girlfriend for almost three years. Her dream was to come and experience studying and working in this country, and I made the decision to accompany her, but we were planning to return to our country next year when our visa expires. Australia is a very expensive country, and without a job, it's practically impossible to support ourselves. My girlfriend does odd jobs, but it's not enough, since with the type of visa we have (student visa), she can only work up to 24 hours per week. I am deeply grateful to this organization and to everyone who can help us through this very difficult time.
