Remembering Sidhu Moosewala at Times Square

I know this past week feels like a bad dream. Punjab and the entire world have been grieving the death of our beloved artist, Sidhu Moosewala. Although he is gone, he taught us many things during his time alive and well.
There are entire populations of Punjabi youth that have emigrated to countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, etc. for better opportunities. Although they may be far from home (Punjab), they are still attached to their roots today all thanks to Sidhu. He has single-handedly managed to keep our culture thriving amongst the new generation. Sidhu Moosewala was our bridge between rustic Punjabi folk and new-age hip hop. There was nobody else that has closed that gap before which is what makes him so special. This isn't a small feat... Sidhu achieved something "modern" parents couldn’t, teaching their children Punjabi. He made our mother tongue "cooler" (even though Punjabi is already an amazing language).
Sidhu Moosewala wrote his songs like he was creating a masterpiece portrait. The amount of detail and attention to every word was not overlooked by this man. He would create lyrics filled with beautiful metaphors, sharp punches, and clever wording. Sometimes you wouldn't even understand what he said in a certain verse and later look it up to be in awe of the meaning. Sidhu samaj vich nhi, dil vich aunda aa. He was truly the people's artist. He used his voice to talk for others. He wrote nothing but the truth, whether it be good or bad.
Every Punjabi parent wants their kid to be a doctor, engineer, or lawyer. But the ones that move mountains for humanity are our artists. They are truly the special ones. Without artists, we wouldn't get through our day at work, we wouldn't be dancing at parties, and we wouldn't be inspired to bring change. Sidhu Moosewala always brought the heat with tracks like "Dhaaka" or "So High" which always uplifted us. He made endless "chakme geet" (hype songs). Sidhu provided you with instant energy; no coffee/tea, no pre-workout, no B12 shot needed.
It is very sad to see him go like this. It's even harder to see his mother and father cry for their only son. But I have a message for his parents. To Baapu Balkaur Singh and Ma Charan Kaur, from this one Sidhu, thousands of Sidhus will be born. Fearless. Talented. Honest. Just like him.
Let's honor and pay respects to Punjab's golden boy on the big screen at Times Square, the center of the world. He put our community on the map, and we’ll put him on the biggest stage possible on his birthday! Any contribution is appreciated!
Sidhu wasn't just an artist.
Sidhu was an ideology.
Sidhu was a truth.
Sidhu was a culture.
PBX1 Forever.
