Turtles in Trouble
Donation protected
I have been working, for over 30 years, with high school and college students, local veterinarians and conservationists, to save the endangered Blanding’s turtles that live in Dutchess county, NY. They still need our help. Development and traffic continue to encroach on their habitat. However, we have done some really cool things to help bolster the Blanding’s population. Many of you have contributed in the past and have helped my teams and I raise over 145 hatchling turtles in captivity and then release them back into the wild. We have quadrupled their numbers while studying the effects of climate change on their gender. Now it is time to monitor these young turtles and track their success and I need your help to purchase transmitters, receivers, traps, waders and other essential turtle saving gear. Turns out saving turtles is the perfect social distancing activity! If you can’t donate funds, consider volunteering your time to help monitor them next spring as they head to the nesting grounds. Thanks for your continued love and support of this important, charismatic, indicator species.
