Dearest community,

Our dear friend River has been advocating for chronically ill and disabled people for a long time. Now, in a shocking turn of events, their disability disabled them. They need to have two major surgeries in hopes of having a liveable life again. Recovery will be long and tedious, and they will need a lot of care long-term.

River is a disabled, genderfluid artist and we are crowdfunding for the cost of the procedures and living expenses so they can be cared for post-op. River does care work in their everyday life within their communities. They are a remarkable friend and now it is time we show up for them. Their recovery will take at least a year and we need to raise funds so they can have stable housing, loved ones around to care for them, post-op medical supplies, travel expenses, and cover other general living expenses.

Currently they are living a life of compromised quality and surgical interventions have become non-negotiable. River is relocating to hopefully have one of their surgeries covered by insurance.

They will hopefully be able to qualify for disability in about a year. (Although being on long-term disability disqualifies you from adopting children which is pretty fucked up)

Costs to Cover:


- Relocation (~4300€):

This will cover deposit for a new place, accessible interior set up of apartment, appliances, legal fees, costs for a trans-national move

- Two Surgeries (~11.000€):

This will cover one out of the two surgeries (hoping insurance covers the other one)pre-op appointments, MRI scans, pain management leading up to the first surgery, physical therapy and some rehabilitation needs.

- Travel (~4200€):

This will cover ticket fares & travel expenses for River & loved ones coming to support & care during & after both surgeries, especially during the long process of physical recovery from spinal surgery.

- General costs of living (~18.000€):

This will cover rent, groceries, health insurance and some basic costs for accessibility.

These surgeries are medically necessary and need to happen between July and October 2026. River is in excruciating pain daily and this care would help them access a better quality of life and emotional courage to sustain the new physiological challenges which emerge from their degenerative health condition.
