Dear Supporters ,
I am Asif Abbasi, and I want to share the incredible journey that led me to become Pakistan's first wheelchair tennis player. Life threw me challenges, but with passion, determination, and a belief that obstacles are stepping stones, I transformed hurdles into victories.
From Hurdles to Victories:
Contracting polio at the age of 2 and a half affected my right leg, making running a challenge until I was 8. However, my love for sports, particularly tennis,, became a catalyst for strength. Despite initial limitations, sports made me stronger, and I refused to let my disability hinder my passion.
Discovering Tennis:
While on holidays, I stumbled upon tennis watching players in a nearby club. Drawing makeshift courts on the ground, I imitated them with bare hands or wooden planks. Little did I know that this playful imitation would spark a profound journey into tennis coach and later into wheelchair tennis.
From Imitation to Aspiration:
With no formal coaching or support, I ventured into tennis, hitting balls against fences for hours. Facing ridicule in junior tournaments due to my disability, I turned adversity into fuel for my ambition. Now As a self employed tennis coach, and specially Professional wheelchair tennis player, I work tirelessly, demonstrating that with dedication, dreams are achievable.
Achievements Against All Odds:
First Pakistani wheelchair tennis player to break into the top 100 globally.
Achieved a remarkable world ranking of 82 within a year of starting wheelchair tennis.
Historic win as the first Pakistani to secure an international tournament victory in 2018.
Currently the sole representative for Pakistan at the international level since April 2017.
Featured and interviewed by ITF at the World Team Cup in Turkey in 2022.
Represented Pakistan in Asian para games in 2023 for the first time in history. Made history by reaching pre quarter of the tournament.
Championing the Cause:
Three-time ITF International wheelchair tennis tournament winner since 2017.
Represented Pakistan at the World Team Cup in Turkey 2022, for the first time in history.
Won numerous national series tournaments in UK.
Won three times in a row "Player of the year award" in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
National Champion at the inaugural "Play your Way to Wimbledon" wheelchair tennis tournament at the iconic Wimbledon venue in the UK.
The Challenge Ahead:
Despite sitting at 131 in the world ranking after limited tournaments post-COVID, financial barriers prevent full-time training and participation in crucial international tournaments. I am currently at 131 globally and aim to break into the top 70 within the next five months, a critical goal in this Paralympic year.
Your Support Matters:
I invite you to join me on this journey. Your financial support will enable me to play more tournaments, raise my ranking, and qualify for the Paris Paralympics in 2024
Together, let's prove that passion, determination, and hard work can overcome any challenge. Thank you for being a part of my story.
Best regards,
Asif Abbasi
