Turner Phillips was diagnosed late November 2019 with AML Leukemia. He had his first stem cell transplant in April 2020. He relapsed in January of this year (2021) They have been fighting this with chemo every month since his relapse In October Vanderbilt shared that they have tried all of their protocols for his treatment. They recommended he search for a clinical trial which led them to MD Anderson in Houston. This clinical trial can be for 7 months. Each round is 28 days and at the end of each round they will do a bone marrow biopsy to see if he is in remission. Once he is in remission they will move as quickly as possible to a second stem cell transplant. Once he gets to the stem cell transplant it takes 100 days and then he will hopefully be well enough to travel back to Brentwood and be monitored at Vanderbilt. I am sharing all of this to try to explain that Hunter and Turner may be living in Houston 5 months or more depending on how Turner responds to the treatment.
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP:
PRAY, PRAY, PRAY
That Turner goes into remission quickly and responds to this treatment well so he can get the stem cell transplant as quickly as possible and move toward getting home. Pray that once he gets to the stem cell transplant that it goes well, and he is healthy and strong afterwards so he can go home.
GIVE
Second, you can donate to help with housing, food and necessitates while Turner and Hunter are living in Houston. All of the housing provided by Ronald McDonald House and other such organizations have long waiting lists. Hunter has secured an unfurnished apartment trying to keep costs down and he will be renting basic furniture. He will be buying linens, kitchen supplies etc so he can save money cooking at the apartment He found it saved money going this route rather than a fully furnished apartment. Even parking at the hospital each day is an expense. There will also be travel expenses for Renee to go to and from once a month or so to allow Hunter to come back home and take care of things he needs.
This family has been going through this for close to two years and realistically, with all there is involved with this clinical trial, the second stem cell transplant and recovery from the transplant, they are looking at possibly a third year. They have been strong and positive but we all know that they are weary and discouraged at times. The added expenses on top of two years worth of medical bills, I am sure, can seem crushing. Let’s show them some love and support and keep the prayers coming for the Phillips family. If you can give financially I know that would be a huge help to them also. Turner, who is now 24 years old, misses his home and his family and his dog and missing being home for Christmas is not what anyone would hope for. Let’s do our best to send them some joy. THANK YOU! Please feel free to contact me with questions.
