I'm a plant breeder, and I collaborate with people worldwide to breed and study new crops and cropping systems. My Turkish friends and collaborators living near Adana, Turkey, and in villages surrounding the city have been severely affected by the recent earthquakes. They are young graduate students preparing for promising careers developing high-yielding sustainable crops and cropping systems as plant breeders, plant physiologists, agronomists, and computer scientists. Unfortunately, they have lost family homes and have family members injured during this natural disaster. Any funds that are raised will go towards helping these students and their families find new housing, pay for medical bills, and continue their graduate education. I hope they can return to their studies - instead of finding new jobs to support their families during this financial crisis - with the confidence that their families will be okay. I will transfer these funds to a Turkish student named Murat, who already has a US bank account, to another student Kubra who is in Murat's lab when I visit them in early March.
