Karen and Savas Can are well known to many people in Marple. Savas is originally from a small town called Samandag, in the Hatay region of South-Central Turkey.
In the early morning hours of February 6th, this quiet area of Turkey was hit by a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
Samandag is where Savas’ family and friends still live and his small, hometown community, nearby towns and villages have all suffered unfathomable destruction. The death toll currently stands at 12,000 and, sadly, this number is predicted to rise dramatically.
Thousands of people, of all ages, are still missing, injured or displaced. People have not only lost their families but also their homes, schools and medical facilities have been reduced to rubble.
We are asking for any financial donation you can spare to assist these people in two ways. Those affected by this disaster need immediate access to emergency supplies. Food, water and medicine are desperately needed before the long road to recovery can even be contemplated.
The Can family has spoken with friends and neighbors who have been left with nothing. They are traumatized and grieving, and also need supplies for shelter and to construct housing before they can even begin to rebuild their lives.
All donations to this fund will exclusively support the victims and assist with relief and recovery from this disaster. A support team is leaving as soon as possible to provide direct assistance and ANY help is truly appreciated.
We are planning to document all donations received along with expenses if anybody wants to see where the donations are being directed.
