Turkey Emergency Fund for Syrian Family

Hello, Friends, family, friends of friends and the wider network. I am opening this fundraiser for a good friend, Adnan. His family are in need of urgent help after the Earthquake in Turkey. It was a miracle they survived, but in the catastrophe Adnan’s family home has gone. As Syrian refugees, who have already fled the civil war in Syria, they have to start from nothing…again.

As ‘guests’ in Turkey they receive no direct support or funds from the government so we need your help. This is Adnan’s story. Please share and thanks in advance for any contribution you make in assisting this precarious situation.

I haven't been able to embrace my mother, father, sister & youngest brother since February of 2014.

Due to the unsettling war in Syria & its long shadows, we had to separate indefinitely, with hopes of an imminent reunion.

This February, I awoke to a nightmare - the news of losing their home in Sanliurfa, courtesy of the catastrophic earthquake that ravaged Turkey and Syria. The news struck a chord of anguish and heartbreak in me, despite the oceans and borders that separated us.

The past few years have been an unrelenting series of tragedies for my family. They lost their home in Damascus, were forced to leave their loved ones, and had to flee their second home near the Euphrates river to escape extremists. The recent earthquake has only compounded their misery, leaving them and countless others in their region shattered and bereft.

In the last week, my heart has been heavy with the weight of the monumental task of finding them a refuge to escape the biting cold of winter. The sheer scale of the tragedy is biblical, leaving tens of thousands homeless and hopeless. The pain of separation has now been eclipsed by the agonizing worry for their survival.

Now more than ever, I am determined to bring my family back together. The pain of separation has become unbearable, and the thought of not being able to hold them in my arms is soul-crushing. My dear friends have set up this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to support the reunification of my family.

The funds will help cover the costs of travel, legal fees, and other expenses required to bring my family to safety and reunite us once again. Your support can make a world of difference and bring us one step closer to being together.

The tragedy that has befallen my family is not unique, and there are countless others in Syria and beyond who are struggling to stay alive and reunite with their loved ones. Any funds raised above the goal will be donated to organizations working towards alleviating the suffering of families affected by the earthquake in Syria & Turkey.

Beyond a simple meal or short term solution this fundraiser is a chance to create a permanent and lasting solution; to rebuild a life three times is already too many times. This must be the last time and should be done in a meaningful way. We hope this estranged family can finally reconnect and find stability after 10 years of living with the Assad Regime, ISIS and now this earthquake. The kindness will not be forgotten.
