Turk's Tummy Troubles
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kathleen and I'm fundraising for Turk, my amazing and loving dog. I am a single, 2nd grade teacher and Turk is my world! Growing up, I always wanted children. I was determined to wait for true love and then start a family. Well, life doesn't go as planned and I am unable to have children. Welcome Turk into my life. I have never known a love like this! He is my best friend, always at my side giving me unconditional love. He is so sweet and caring to everyone! He always wants to say hi to every person or animal we come across!
Turk picked me when he was just a baby. When we met, I was informed that he had just recovered from parvo (a life threatening illness for dogs). I knew he was a fighter! He is an American Stafford Terrier mix. I have tried to do all the right things from making sure he has all his vaccines to keeping his teeth clean. We run together several times a week and love our long walks around the neighborhood. I purchased a wellness plan with the vet and also purchased insurance to cover emergencies.
This past week, I went on a trip to help my brother and his family. My amazing friend was watching Turk. While I was mid air, I received a text from my friend that my baby, Turk, was sick and vomiting. After calling the vet, it was recommended that he go to the emergency room. I am in my seat on the airplane crying and having an anxiety attack because I was not there for him and there was nothing I could do. Thank goodness for wifi on planes. The doctors evaluated him and ran tests determing that he had an obstruction in his stomach. He was going to need surgery to remove it. Through this process I was not concerned about the cost because I had insurance for him, or so I thought. Once I landed at LAX, I quickly tried to switch my flight to come home to my baby, talked with the dr and called the insurance company. Only to find out that the insurance lapsed. The person responsible for paying it- didn't and I was not aware. At this point I am pacing back and forth, crying and praying that Turk is alright. They go ahead with the surgery and thankfully remove the obstruction and he is on the mend! I am so thankful for my friend and the doctors and nurses that helped keep him healthy and safe. Now the bill......$6366.26! I thought I had insurance, I thought it would be fine. It wasn't.
Although there are plenty of pressing issues and grave circumstances among those in the world, pets have a special place in my heart which is why this means so much to me and my family. Turk is without a doubt a member of my family and I will always care for him like so. If you are a fellow dog lover and know the special bond with one, any donation is greatly appreciated from $5-$500 and does not go unnoticed. Each donation moves Turk & I closer to our goal and I am forever grateful for this.
I have trust in the universe and GOD! Turk & I thank you for your generosity.
For transparency, I wanted to share Turk's itemized receipt for his procedures, care and medication for anyone who was curious.
