Hi! My name is Raven, and those of you who know me know my love for animals exists beyond my own lovely pets. A wonderful friend of my family recently shared with us that their sweet dog Turbo, has now had to receive not one but TWO emergency surgeries. His owner is one of the most loving, generous, and compassionate people my family has come to know and love. Turbo’s mom not only spreads compassion within our lives, but exhibits her selflessness to all. I believe that there are other good humans out there, like Turbo’s mom who have the same compassion, and will help us raise the funds necessary to cover Turbo’s medical costs.
Here is a little biography written by Turbo’s mom to share more about sweet Turbo and his journey.
My heart belongs to a little Yorkipoo named Turbo with orange ears and an orange tail. He lifted me up at a time in my life that I quickly could have slipped into depression. I met him just after I had surgery replacing a ruptured disc in my neck. Turbo helped me stay active, made me smile, and gave me unconditional love.
On 5/19/22 my partner and I were faced with the horrible and costly decision of Turbo having the same surgery. He had ruptured a disc between his 2nd and 3rd lumbar. Without it being removed, he would never walk again.
We reached out to Birch Bark Foundation for assistance with the financial responsibility. They were able to gift us a small portion of the 10k surgery however, it just wasn't enough. We were able to secure a loan through Scratch Pay for some of it as well and Turbo was sent into surgery before his condition got worse.
Since the first surgery, unexpected complications have arisen and further increased the medical expenses for Turbo’s life-saving care. After coming home for one night after surgery, Turbo began to regain feeling and sensation coming back to his lower extremities as the anesthetic began to wear off. Turbo began to regain feeling in his genitals, creating an uncontrollable tingling and itching sensation in his genitalia. This resulted in Turbo itching and chewing his genitalia so severely that he not only reached the bone, but then broke the bone. We were devastated to have to put Turbo through yet another surgery in such a short period of time, but this affects his ability to urinate, and caused severe bleeding. So, off Turbo went to receive another surgery in order to shave down the genitalia bone, as it now protruded from all skin and muscle. Then, they reattached the urethra which had been chewed off. We could not bear to have this done too!
Due to the emergency nature of the second surgery, we have only received a verbal quote of what our costs will be. The second surgery is estimated to be $4900, on top of the $8,059.81 cost of the initial surgery. Although this all helps to get him into immediate surgery it does not help with his long term recovery. This was a huge shock to our family, bank accounts, and our regular life.
Any and all donations, and sharing of this post will be directly given to Turbo’s mom to help cover costs of his surgeries and necessary after-care. We are all deeply grateful to any and all that help, no matter how big or small, a simple share of his page is beyond appreciated.
Thank you for your kindness, and compassion.
