Brandon Tsim Meej and Zekaius Muaj Yeej Chanh were born prematurely on January 3, 2007 to Choua and Tou Chanh. Unfortunately Zekaius didn’t make it and passed away on January 8, 2007. Brandon was a happy and healthy little boy even with severe hearing loss. In July 2009, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML). He received a few rounds of chemotherapy until November 2009 when he got the bone marrow transplant from his mother, Choua. After receiving a variety of strong meds, he became deaf. However, He was able to learn sign language and communicate with his family. He loved everyone wholeheartedly. In July 2014, Brandon was declared as a Cancer Survivor!
On April 30, 2015, Brandon spiked a high fever of 106 F and was suspected to have pneumonia. He was transferred from Oroville Hospital to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Within 22 hours our lives changed forever. When he arrived at UCSF, he was admitted to the Oncology floor as stabled. He was in his father's arms then became unresponsive and may have had seizures. His dad immediately notified the nursing staff. They came in and realized something was not right. Many doctors came to see him and noted his critical condition resulting in a transfer to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. After many tests and multiple blood draws, the doctors realized that he had a bacteria infection that had entered his blood stream. He started getting petechiae and as test results started to come in the doctors notified his parents that the bacteria had traveled into his brain. While waiting for more test results Brandon continued to be unresponsive and he began to go into DIC. They needed to release the pressure in his brain from the bleeding, but could not do the surgery because his blood was not clotting. His last CT scan showed that it was too late for the surgery to release the pressure in his brain and the right side of his brain had died. The doctor's took his parents and family into a conference and gave them the devastating news. There was no other option, but to be there for Brandon for his last breath. He was on life support until all his loved ones arrived and they let Brandon go on his own. His mom whispered her last words to him and while she was hesitant to allow him to go, God called him home during prayer. On May 1, 2015, he passed away around 8:30pm in his mother and father’s arm and was surrounded by loved ones. Our family is devastated and heart broken by this tragedy. We will miss Brandon forever! But we know he is free from this world and is happy in Heaven, dancing with Jesus and his twin brother, Zekaius.
Please keep Brandon's family in your prayers and help donate to help the family. We greatly appreciate anything! May God bless you!
