Tungavidya Devi Dasi's Heart Valve Replacement

Namaste. This is Krishna Keshava Das, serving assistant to Sripad Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaja, Ph. D., the Serving Director of the Bhakti Vedanta Institute of Spiritual Culture and Science in Princeton, New Jersey, USA. We are humbly requesting assistance in paying the medical expenses for a Vaishnavi monk living and serving at the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math temple in Thakurtala, Nrisinghapur, West Bengal, India, under the affectionate guidance of Srila Bhakti Niskama Shanta Maharaja, Ph. D. Her name is Tungavidya Devi Dasi (the lady in saffron dress to the left of the photo). She humbly engages in various services at the temple such as preparing prasadam for the devotees and deities.

Around 1998, Tungavidya Didi had a heart valve put in. During a recent check-up, doctors reported that the valve is twisted, and that in order to be fixed it needs to be operated on. The total medical expenses are around 500,000 Indian rupees (5 lakh). Medical reports are included below and are available upon request.

In the Padma-purāṇa, it is said

ārādhanānāṁ sarveṣāṁ viṣṇor ārādhanaṁ param

tasmāt parataraṁ devi tadīyānāṁ samarchanam

“The worship and devotional service of Lord Nārāyaṇ, Viṣṇu, is the highest. But higher than the worship of Nārāyaṇ is worship of the devotees of Lord Nārāyaṇ. That is even greater than devotion to the Lord Himself."
