My beautiful baby girl, Tundra, has to go in for surgery on Friday July 4. She has a tumour on her paw, on the outer toe to her left front paw. She is limping badly and affecting her walks. We did a cystology test. Unfortunately, it came back abnormal and inconclusive if it was benign or malignant. Regardless of these results, the mass must be removed. And doing so may result in the possible amputation of the toe joint. Then, they will send it out for proper analysis. And of course, the risk of the anesthetic to put her out for surgery at her age. She is 11 and a half now.

I am mortified that I have to put her through this. I have to keep an Elizabethan Collar on her to prevent excessive licking. As the tumour is broken open, she is on antibiotics right now.

I am also distraught over the financial implications. The vet industry is not regulated. Vets can charge whatever they want. At the end of the day, this is going to set me back $4000, which I don’t have. Thanks goodness for credit cards. With the interest, this will probably take me close to 4-5 years to pay it off. I feel sick to my stomach.

I love my Tundra so much. She is my everything. We have been the constant in each others lives since she was 7 weeks old. She was my support during my loneliest years, living in Bella Coola. And she was by my side as we struggled to find a new homes in Bella Coola, which led us to move to Alberta for a year and then make our way back to Vancouver Island. We endured 6 moves in a 3 year period. To say we both suffer from anxiety issues when separated from each other is putting it mildly.

Please keep Tundra and myself in your positive thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult part of our journey together. My tears won’t stop and my heart and mind are heavy with sadness and anxiety.
