Tulsa 1921 Black Wall Street Feature Film

Some examples of our work The Deal Teaser Trailer A feature film about Black Wall Street, the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 has to be made and the time is now. We completed a short film about this a year ago (see the video on this page). This is a story that most people do not know about. The Greenwood District, also known as Black Wall Street, was at the time, the most successful African-American town in the entire United States. It was a completely black owned area and included hospitals, movie theaters, stores, churches, an airport, private planes and more. It was destroyed by an angry white mob over jealousy and their attempt to lynch Dick Rowland, a black man accused by a white woman of sexual assault. The black community stood up to protect him and a shootout occurred that preceded the destruction of the entire community. The people of Greenwood fought valiantly, but in the end they were outnumbered and outgunned. Even still, they were heroes and that part of the story needs to be told.
* This story must be told right now more than ever! It will not only benefit, educate and inspire African-Americans in this country, but people around the world. The misconception of black people and the affects of racism must be presented in a truthful way if we ever hope to move beyond it.
* My name is Marlon Ladd and I am an award winning Director. I'm also a Professor from Oklahoma with an affinity for black history. For too long our courageous ancestors have been hidden from us and that needs to change. I am the first filmmaker to have ever completed a film about Bass Reeves, the first, black Deputy U.S. Marshal in the Oklahoma Indian Territory and one of the first to do a narrative short film on Black Wall Street. I am here, because I have always wanted to make this a full length feature film, but I lack the necessary funds to make this happen on a high level.
* The 100 year anniversary for the massacre is May 31st 2021. It is a huge deal to be able to have this film completed to be able to show by then. That is why we are doing this now. The sooner we can get started, the better and my team and I cannot do this without you.
