Devastating Fire On The Family Farm
“YOUR FARM IS ON FIRE!” Not the phone call any farmer would ever want to receive, but it was a tragic reality for the MacKenzie-Baird family at Tulach Ard Farm in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia on March 1st, 2019. Thick smoke could be seen from several kilometers away by the time the fire department arrived on the scene of the massive working fire that tore through the main horse stable rendering it a total loss.
Nobody was home Friday morning when the fire started, but there were fifteen horses on the farm. Most were outside in the pasture, however “Impeccable” (aka “Junior”) a beautiful 16 year old stallion was tragically lost in the blaze.
The young family of five had been working hard to establish and restore the recently purchased century farm as a Standardbred Horse Nursery. The large stable included twenty horse stalls along with various farming equipment and personal belongings.
The MacKenzie-Baird family have had a strong presence in the community always willing to lend a helping hand. An ongoing relief effort from neighbours and local vendors has been received with much gratitude. Temporary space was offered by another local farm to provide a safe haven for the horses.
We are reaching out to the community to help this family rebuild their stable and to alleviate their immediate costs associated with the fire. Please help share this campaign and provide your support with any contribution possible. Thanks for your help and understanding.
