Tukey and friends need a new perch

Tukey and his feathered friends need a new place to stay. Their homes at the Kalamazoo Nature Center were damaged by ice storms that wreaked havoc this spring in Southern Michigan and are currently in temporary housing until new ones can be built.

KNC is a non-profit that "creates relationships and experiences that inspire people to discover, enjoy, value, and care for nature." We provide long-term care for animals that are too injured to be released back into the wild.

Tukey was found on top of a water tower with a broken wing and quickly "imprinted" on his human rescuers. (In other words, he now relates much more to people than turkey vultures!) He's also a camera-ready ham and has become one of the most beloved Animal Ambassadors that star in the Nature Center's educational programs.

However, new government regulations regarding birdkeeping have added extra costs to our rebuild. Without adequate housing, KNC may need to reduce its animal collection -- and lose all the wonderful learning experiences that only wild animals can provide. With your help, we can give Tukey and friends a new home with more room, more comfort, and more ways for people to enjoy them.
