We are raising money to help our dear friend Alison Feiler. You know those special, amazing friends who you consider family? That’s our Alison.
She is a vibrant, energetic single mom of two kids who is going through a very hard time.
She would never ask for help like this on her own. So we are sharing her story.
After suffering through severe back pain and sciatica for several weeks, Alison finally sought the help of a doctor, after developing numbness and “drop-foot” on her left side. The doctor admitted her to the hospital immediately. He performed a surgery the next day to remove remnants of a herniated disc. After surgery, the doctor described the state of her spine as “the worst I’ve ever seen.”
After just 2 days in the hospital, she was sent home to recover on her own.
For 6 weeks after the surgery Alison’s activity was restricted to short walks. She was not able to drive or work.
After 6 weeks, although she was still in debilitating pain, she had no choice but to go back to work to earn the money she needed to fulfill her financial obligations.
Unfortunately, after only one day back at work, she started experiencing severe back pain and sciatica, but on her right side this time. Reluctantly, she went back to the emergency room. After an MRI, they discovered a herniation on the opposite side of her spine. They performed another surgery that same day.
Again, she was released the day after surgery with 6 more weeks of “no work” and “no driving” restrictions.
However, instead of getting better, things got worse.
Just days after the second surgery, she developed a 104-degree fever and sepsis which put her back in the hospital. She has now been there for 5 days, receiving IV antibiotics and will likely be there for at least a couple more days.
When she is finally released, she can expect another 6-weeks of “no work/no driving” restrictions ahead of her.
It has now been almost 9 weeks since she has been able to work, and the bills are piling up.
As her friends and family, we want to do anything we can to help. Alison is her household’s only financial provider. After not getting a paycheck for months we not only worry about her recovery from the surgeries and the infection, but how she will be able to recover from the financial hardship she is accruing in the process.
Alison is one of the strongest women we know. After a difficult divorce, she has worked hard to provide for her kids and build a new life. She has accomplished this without losing her sense of humor and continues to be an incredible friend, sister, mom and daughter.
We are hoping to give her one less thing to worry about by setting up this page and turning to you for help, knowing she would do the same for us if we were in her situation.
Please consider making a donation to help our dear Alison get back on her feet.
Thank you so much.
