The Continuance Of My Education
Hi Everyone!
My name is Larrenzzo Amos, and I am studying Neuroscience in the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon with the GPA of a 3.7. You may be wondering what are my long term goals once receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience. Once graduating, I would like to continue my education receiving my Master's Degree as my next step will be striving to be in the medical field as an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist while becoming an entrepreneur in owning my own fitness business. The University of Oregon had been an Institution I dreamt about attending since the age of 10, and as a young man who went from leaving Middle School with a 0.3 GPA and transitioning into High School with a 1.3 GPA; I became ineligible to play the sport I grew up around after a few months into my Freshman Year, which was Football. I fell into a path of being in the atmosphere of gang members as a peer group and seemed to have the desire to grasp the goals and aspirations I've placed for myself but my actions did not do the talking. One day after several months of hard work, I was pulled in front of the entire Football team and my Head Coach put his arm around me and I will never forget the words that came out his mouth, "Everybody, Larrenzzo had received a 3.3 GPA and is now eligible to play". Since then, my academic expedition to success was sparked. I modified my mentality, my friend group, and became a player of the Mira Mesa Marauders Varsity Football Team straight from Freshman Football and played Varsity for 3 years straight. After attending 3 Community Colleges in 1 year for my general education just so I can get accepted into the University of Oregon. I worked from 3:30 pm to 11pm a few weeks at the San Diego International Airport as a Ramp Agent taking the bus and trolley from Downtown San Diego to San Ysidro in a duration of almost 3 hours. I would miss the bus due to the trolley and would need to walk home an 30 minutes. After showering and eating, I would not get into bed until 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning and had to wake up at 9 o'clock am to go back to school and do it all over again. After all this hardship of a time I finally was able to save up to get a car, lessen my hours, and was able to focus more on my studies. On the day of March 19th of 2020 my life had changed forever, I was accepted into the University of Oregon! After receiving the acceptance letter, I could never find a memory of myself crying as hard as I did that night and a large amount of weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Now as I type my story for you to read, I sit in my Quad (A small room with a private bathroom and shared kitchen) that I pay $720 a month for, I can tell you this that I did it! I evolved from a young man hanging around gang members to a Scholar-Athlete in Honors seeking to have a walk-on opportunity on the University of Oregon Ducks Football team while also training in Rugby. The issue is a $15,100 outstanding balance that I owe to the University for the Out-of-State Tuition from the Fall 2020 semester, this balance is what is preventing me from continuing my education at the University as the Institute will not allow me to register for classes until the balance is at least under $3,000 or completely paid for. In September, and once the outstanding balance is paid for, I will be a resident paying for In-State Tuition and it will be dramatically lower than Out-of-State tuition and can finally continue my education. My story is a voice, my story is an inspiration that touches the heart of every listener that hears to it, and the younger generation that I create a path for can see, that I; Larrenzzo Amos is walking proof that Anything is Possible.
