Souleymane "Solo" Dansoko is a physics major at Kent State University who graduated in May, 2025. He has been accepted to Carnegie Mellon University for the PhD program in materials science starting in fall, 2025.
Solo needs financial assistance to get through the transition to grad school. CMU has not offered him summer support and he's no longer eligible to work on campus at Kent State. Our international office advised him not to apply for OPT so he can't work off-campus either. Going home to see his family in Mali is impossible because of the recent travel ban.
He's searching for on-campus summer employment at CMU, but in the meantime needs short-term assistance to cover his expenses and find housing in Pittsburgh. On top of all that, he still owes more than $10,000 in tuition to Kent State.
Solo is a brilliant young scientist and I have high hopes for his future. Please join me in helping him get through this transition to grad school. Many thanks!
