Salamu Alaikum all,
My name is Layla Waller, a young Muslim woman that has always aspired to become a veterinarian. I am currently a senior at Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, intending to attend Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) this Fall 2021. I would like to go to HPU because, unlike other larger state universities, it provides learning opportunities such an intimate environment for me to make connections with my peers and professors and access to state-of-the-art veterinary facilities. My dream is to become a veterinarian and, according to the Sunnah, formally exhibit compassion through the medical care of animals. God willing, in the future, I would like to not only help animals but people alike by beginning non-profit organizations that will allow my community to prosper. For example, I would like to help start community gardens and organizations that provide aid to homeless people. From the blessings of Allah, I have been fortunate to receive financial aid funds and scholarships, but I still need 15,000 to cover my remaining tuition for the year. I would like to avoid loans to the best of my abilities because of the long-term detriment interest causes. I come from a low-income household and am a child of a divorce. Therefore, paying for college has always been an issue my family and I have had to worry about. Although I am incredibly grateful for what my parents have had to sacrifice for me, we do not have enough to cover this opportunity. My mother is self-employed so most of the money she makes cycles back into providing for our daily needs and helping her business thrive. My father is handicapped and a cancer survivor who is responsible for covering his medical bills. I ask you, as part of the community, to help me in moving towards the next rung of the ladder in my life. Thank you for any donation that you are kind enough to give and may God bless you.
