This news thrilled me and really boosted my confidence. My mother and I were already planning my subway route from my aunt Sarah's house in Brooklyn to the Alvin Ailey studio in Manhattan.
When I went into that audition, I was already pretty familiar with Alvin Ailey's techniques of Horton and Graham dance. I studied both Graham and Horton technique from Ailey representatives last summer at New Ballet Ensemble, as well as when a group from New Ballet traveled to Moncalvo, Italy for the summer intensive Orsolina 28. Here, we studied Horton and Graham technique and learned sections of Revelations. I became interested in these techniques and when I heard of an audition, there was no doubt in my mind that I would do it, even if it was just for the experience.
These funds will be used to help us cover the tuition of $2,775. This support means so much to me because it has been my dream for many years to study dance in New York City. This kind of intensive prepares you to get into a company when you are older and provides you with experiences in the real world. I would be eternally grateful for any help.
