Tuition Fees for our Sister.
Donation protected
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Alvina was born and raised in East Malaysia. She moved to Ireland in 2022 at 19 years old to start her degree in Applied Biology and Biopharmaceutical Science in ATU. Now, at 20, Alvina has successfully completed the first year of her degree and will resume her studies on the 18th of September 2023.
Alvina's degree is funded by her parents who send her the sum of her tuition fees. Given their financial situation, that’s all they can contribute to her studies abroad. Thus, Alvina must work in order to sustain herself here in Ireland.
On the 9th of August 2023 Alvina saw an advertisement on Instagram for a Sales Job with a company called BigCommerce. Seeing as she had been struggling to get more hours in her job to cover her rent, she unfortunately clicked on the link and it redirected her to a WhatsApp group.
When she entered the group, she was assigned a mentor who tricked her into buying cryptocurrency on a website called Bybit. That cryptocurrency would be used on BigCommerce to boost sales for merchants who sold goods online. For example, they would purchase goods from these merchants with their cryptocurrency (giving the appearance that the goods were selling well) and then be refunded the money for helping boost its sale prospects.
BigCommerce promised them a full refund for the products they bought online and this would also include commission. Based on our research, Alvina had to boost 40 sales to get all her money back with commission.
However, she could not actually meet the target because the company continually asked her to boost the sales of products that exceeded the amount she had in her account (in cryptocurrency). This meant that she had to buy more cryptocurrency so she could pay what she owed and receive her money back.
We were made aware of the situation on Sunday and we immediately drove her to the police station to make a statement. This will be investigated by the Fraud Unit in Millstreet Garda Station Galway because the amount defrauded exceeds €1000.
We reported all the cryptocurrency purchases to Revolut, but there’s no certainty she’ll get the money back.
Our dear sister grew up in a Christian home. This is her first time living away from home, so she is very naïve and vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy. Alvina loves the Lord and has developed a passion for evangelism. It has been amazing to see how she went from being shy, and hesitant to share her faith with others to sharing it with anyone she gets the opportunity to.
The possibility of not being able to continue her studies in Ireland would be a devastating blow to herself, her family and to us. She has been a blessing to the church and to us as individuals.
It would be a blessing if you could give according to how our Lord has blessed you. Below is a breakdown of how we could raise the €7000 for her tuition:
10 People give €250 (€2500)
20 People give €100 (€2000)
30 People give €50 (€1500)
40 People give €25 (€1000)
Please help us share this among the Christian Community until we meet our goal. If any of the defrauded money is recovered, we will ensure that you are refunded.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Chancelle.
