Tuition Assistance for Nathalie Alfred
My name is Nathalie Alfred. I am an international student at Brooklyn College, and I need your assistance in raising funds to complete the first year of my graduate degree program.
I come from an extended family household, raised by my grandmother and I'm a first-generation college student. My grandmother passed away when I was 16 and I have been working ever since to support myself and my family while pursuing my current degree.
My Story
At the start of my undergrad career, I was able to support myself financially using scholarships and the ability to work several jobs whether on or off-campus.
In January of this year, I enrolled in my MBA program at Brooklyn College to start the completion of my tertiary education goals. My plan was to take a loan in order to pay off my tuition fees and also apply for further grants/scholarships, however, I was unable to get an extension on my work authorization due to the fact that I started a new program. I currently must wait until the first year of the program in order to qualify for work authorization. Moreover, due to the ongoing pandemic, I am also unable to work on campus since the school is closed.
I’ve been able to get by this year on my savings but I do not qualify for financial aid nor do I have to resources to secure a loan at this time.
The cost of attendance at Brooklyn College (2019-2020) is approximately $43,065. To offset some of the costs, I have received assistance from family and friends and am currently heavily depending on my savings.
Alas, we can only do so much. I am therefore asking for your assistance to raise $15,000 to meet my tuition expenses for the academic year. I have gathered this estimate from Brooklyn College Graduate Tuition and Fees provided by the university. As a low-income international student, I do not have the resources solely to afford these costs while unemployed.
Your help would enable me to achieve my professional, academic, and personal goals and give me the necessary skill set to successfully run my small business. I am unable to work in the United States until I complete the first year of my program. As such, these funds will help me successfully complete my first year of studies without incurring too much debt.
If you would like to support me in another way, please check out my Etsy Store (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScentsualSoaps/). I supply natural skincare products such as body butters, sugar scrubs, cold and hot process soaps.
I am so grateful for this opportunity and it would mean so much if you could support me. Thank you so much!
