Winnie’s leg surgery

Hi furiends!

My name’s Winnie and I’m a 4-year-old Pom-Chi princess from the cozy town of North Rustico. I’m small but mighty, with a big love for cuddles, playing, and spending special snuggle time with my grandma.

But here’s the ruff part of my tail… I was born with some tricky knees — they call it Luxating Patella, but I call it “ouchie pop-out knees.” Since my very first vet visit, my back legs kept giving me trouble. The plan was to wait until I was a year old for surgery, but my knees had other plans. They kept slipping out, and my human had to pop them back in for me (yikes!). So, my vet decided we should hop to it (well… try to hop) and do my surgeries sooner.

I spent my puppyhood healing from two big knee surgeries, and just when we thought my legs were feeling pawsome again… we noticed my ankles started wobbling and rolling when I walked. My amazing vet sent me to see a super-special surgeon who visits PEI from the US.

Now here’s the update: I need something called tarsal arthrodesis on BOTH back legs — fancy words for “fusing my ankle joints so they stay put.” On top of that, one of my old knee surgeries didn’t stick (boo!), so I need a redo on my right knee too. The good news? My surgeon can do all THREE surgeries in one big day when they return on September 6th. That helps keep the costs a little lower — the estimate is about $7,000 (not counting my aftercare visits).

After surgery, I’ll need:
4 weeks of weekly bandage changes
Special scans at 8 weeks to see if the bones are healing
About 12 weeks of strict “bed rest” (no zoomies, which will be ruff!)

I know it’s a big ask, but I dream of the day I can walk, run, and play without pain. I just want to live my best doggo life — chasing toys, wagging my tail, and giving kisses instead of limping.

My humans are holding a yard sale on Cavendish Road in the next few weekends, and every single penny they raise goes straight to my surgery fund.

Even if you can’t donate, a share of my story means the world to me. Every little bit helps my paws take their next pain-free steps.

From the bottom of my fluffy heart — thank you!
Love & wiggles,
Winnie

UPDATE : due my human having health issues and spending a few weeks in the hospital, her and my surgeon decided to push my surgery until October so that we have more time to prepare .
