I would like to share with you, the journey that my daughter Sarah and her family have been through in the past 2.5 years. I say "family" because Chronic Lyme Disease affects not only the patient, but those close to them as well.
Sarah is a single mother of 2 children, ages 11 and 14. Little did she know, when she began to exhibit her initial symptoms, that it was the beginning of a long, tiring road that would lead to debilitating pain, neurological symptoms, palsy, paralysis and other side effects of Lyme Disease too numerous to mention here.
It also entailed being bounced around from doctor to doctor, in four different states, emergency room visits, spinal taps and many other procedures in an effort to rule out various diseases.
As you can see from the video linked, taken in a Dr.'s office, when Sarah is at her worst, it is impossible to function. She is an Eye Technician and although her disease has caused her to miss a significant amount of work, she strives to go, even when it is extremely difficult to aquire the energy and stamina to get out of bed in the morning. Many thanks, by the way, to her co-workers, who have been so supportive of her thoughout this.
While dealing with her daily ongoing trials, she remains positive and hopeful for a cure, for the sake of her children. She is truly a role model and witness for all of us, with humble characteristics that we can only hope to attain, as our trials seem insignificant compared to hers. Not one to complain, she bears her burdens admirably and quietly.
Needless to say, in addition to her health problems, her medical bills have become overwhelming. She has been denied medical assistance from the state. Her current insurance is a high deductible plan. As most Lyme Disease sufferers have experienced, unfortunately, insurance companies don't cover treatment for chronic Lyme Disease. Due to scheduled doctors visits in the neighboring state, she must now cut back her hours at work and is facing losing her health insurance as a result. Additionally, her medical expenses average $3,800 per month, between Dr. visits, tests, prescriptions and procedures totaling around $50,000 for a year of treatment.
I am asking for your prayers and any help to make the road she is traveling more tolerable, with the hope that following the doctors prescribed course of action will soon lead to better days ahead and some normalcy in her life for Sarah and her children. Thank you in advance for your help. Please share and pass this along.
