My moms story…

Donation protected
Hi, my names Sara and this is my mom Mary. 6 weeks ago, my mom began to have tingling and numbing in her left hand, as well as a drooling/wet sensation on her face and finger tips. These symptoms eventually led to her having slurred speech while at work and then out grocery shopping with my dad. My dad decided to take my mom to South Lake Regional Hospital where she spent 6 hours doing tests to determine what exactly was happening. That’s where she was diagnosed with two tumours, one in the right frontal lobe and one in the back. Immediately as a daughter you think the absolute worst, but as my moms daughter I thought even worse than that- my mom had stage 3 breast cancer 16 years ago and hearing she had 2 brain tumours immediately put me into a fight or flight response and made me think “not again”.

From South Lake Hospital, she was taken to Toronto Western where she waited 10 days to have brain surgery and was on a day by day wait list. Finally the day came, and my mom had surgery to remove both tumours, they were both removed successfully and she’s now home recovering from surgery. Now comes the waiting game, we’ve been told it will most likely be 3-6 weeks for the results of the biopsy, whether they’re cancerous tumours or not. After we know the results it will give us a much clearer picture of what the next steps will be.

The reason why I’ve created this go fund me is to ultimately help with bills for my parents, my mom will be off work depending on the results. Right now we’re looking at 2 months, but it may be longer if it turns out the tumours are cancerous. With my mom not working, my parents income has been completely sliced in half and with my dad working 60 hours a week, 12 hours a day it’s still not enough to keep up with bills mounting up.

If you would like to donate that would be so much appreciated, if you’re unable to thank you for reading my moms story and please share.

Thank you so much on behalf of my family.

UPDATE:
I would just like to say thank you to all the people that have donated so far and to whomever is going to donate in the future, my family and I appreciate it so much. Unfortunately we have received some bad news, the tumours my mom had removed ended up being cancerous and she is now going to be starting chemo very soon as well as radiation. This is not the news we had hoped for, but knowing my mom she will be fighting through this with so much courage and resilience.

UPDATE: This is unfortunately the last and most heartbreaking update I have for you all. On January 6th 2024, at 5:50 pm my mom passed away from brain cancer. She was surrounded by love and passed peacefully and without pain. We miss her terribly, it doesn’t feel real that she’s gone and it probably never will. I’d like to thank everyone who donated to this go fund me as well as the wonderful staff at Margaret Bahen Hospice for taking care of my mom in the last month of her life, they made her comfortable and ensured us she wasn’t in any pain and finally, they supported us as my mom declined in health- to when she passed. Thank you all once again.
RIP mommy
