How often do we repay someone's help?.... When my baba (father) was ill and hospitalized for sometime, my uncle secretly handed me some money that it could be of use... He knew financial state of ours, and I know his too. Yet, he tried helping me with whatever he could..... he is the purest soul. Unfortunately, today he is fighting for his life. I could not stay just like that for how he helped us when we needed it.
It is scary for us, for low-income earners like us, especially in a country like Nepal....worse it got because of the lockdown as well. We suffer in a way that everything seems uncertain for us. We have dreams, for ourselves, for our family.... however, fulfilling the basics becomes important that when we are struck by some bad luck like illnesses, it ruins everything for us. Here, my uncle has been diagnosed with acute lung cancer. He needs to live but how.......I want to repay him back with as much as I can, so here I am on this platform. I took his consent to use this platform and explained to him how it can help in his treatment.
His name is Ramesh Maharjan (name changed for safety purpose), 56 years old man, who runs a small tea shop. He lives in a small cottage at Thankot with his wife and two children. As a small tea shop runner, his best month would allow him to earn up to Rs 6000 ($55). There are many months where he runs his household in a tight budget. Finding enough to provide his family is nothing new to him. On top of that, now he has been admitted to a local hospital because of a sudden illness. After a thorough medical examination, he received a medical report saying that he has been diagnosed with Acute Lung Cancer. He said "For a good few minutes, my mind and body could not fathom the report and thoughts that followed the report....nevertheless, I had to gather my strength to live for my family. There is hope for me and my family. However, the hope comes with a huge price that I could never be able to fulfill."
This broke me, the doctor has suggested that the treatment would take 3-4 years, and he added "even if I manage to keep my courage, the cost of treatment is estimated up to at least ($10,000)." I could feel his desperation, fear, and helplessness. He mentioned, "..... to lift up my spirit, I have now pinned all hopes on the kindness of strangers, to help me get away from the grip of death."
Your support and blessings will not only save his life, but also his family. I want to thank you all even if you have read his story.
"Every penny counts when it comes to saving human life."
