My name is Shane DeMun,

I am a father to 5 beautiful children and husband to the most wonderful woman I have ever known. I grew up in the small town of Dansville NY to a family that had very little resources. Much of the time I had no idea what my next meal would be, where it would come from or when it would be.

Having lived this way during childhood put me on a path of determination to break out of that type of hardship, having obtained my first employment as soon as I was of legal age (14) and working hard ever since I have been proud to be able to provide for my family without needing to seek outside assistance for many years now. It is because of this that this cry for help is very difficult for me to put out there in front of everyone.

On June 22, 2025, our world was turned upside down when a fire destroyed our home in Dalton, NY. Within hours, everything we owned in that home — every room, every possession, every memory tied to that house — was gone. While we are incredibly grateful that no one was hurt or worse, the aftermath has been emotionally and financially overwhelming.

Our homeowner’s insurance will help, but there are painful limitations:

A $96,000 loan on the home had to be paid off before any rebuilding can happen. Our insurance paid this from the funds allotted toward replacing our home and possessions.

In addition, if we choose to purchase a home elsewhere (which is most likely), the insurance company will deduct the value of the land from the amount they pay out.

All this means we’re left facing a $150,000 gap to replace what we lost and rebuild a safe home for our family.

We’ve never asked for help like this before, but now we humbly ask for your support. Whether you can give $5 or $500, every donation brings us one step closer to putting things back together again.
