TTCS community,
I’m writing as the social worker for Turquoise Trail Charter School and have been working with a family for the last few months who have been experiencing significant tragedy and hardship. As a social worker, I legally cannot share specific details, but I can tell you this is one of the most complex and highest need cases I have ever worked.
We’ve been working with a mother of three girls living on her own. Due to events involving her husband, she made a challenging but essential choice to protect her kids, and he is no longer in the picture and legally never can be again.
Unfortunately, he was also the only breadwinner in the family, struggling. We had funds available to help her, but it is no longer readily available due to bureaucratic issues and snags, and she has until next week to pay rent or find emergency housing. She is also unable to work as of right now due to health issues.
This situation puts the mother and her three daughters (two of whom are students at TTCS) in a very precarious position. The mother has applied for and been accepted by social services, but her needs at this moment are more urgent than social services can provide. While she is supported in finding transitional and low-income housing, she needs support paying rent in order to stay in her home and keep her kids in the safest environment available right now.
She needs the funds to pay for her month's rent plus what she owes to support her, approximately 1850 total. Any support that we can get will be instrumental in helping the family overcome the most significant hurdle before finding stability and support for the mother and her kids.
