We recently learned that a Roosevelt family has been struggling to keep a roof over their heads. TT is a single, hardworking, loving mother who is trying to build a life for herself and her daughter in California. In June 2022 TT and her young daughter moved from Missouri to Santa Monica so TT could provide care for an elderly family member. TT got a job, enrolled her daughter at Roosevelt elementary school, and they settled into life in Santa Monica. Unfortunately, TT soon learned that the household they were living in was not a safe place for either of them. For their physical and mental safety and well-being they had to leave the home without any time to plan their next step. TT was in a new city without the support of any other family or close relations. She has a job, but Santa Monica rents are high, and she did not have enough savings for the first month’s rent and the typical 2X rent security deposit. She found them shelter at a motel in El Segundo and commuted to Santa Monica daily so her daughter could have some continuity in her life and remain in school at Roosevelt where she had already formed strong friendships and a close bond with her teacher. Over the next couple of months, TT continued to search for a permanent place for them to live. The hotel fees caused her savings to be depleted and her credit cards to become maxed out. Over winter vacation TT made the difficult decision to send her daughter to stay with her paternal grandmother back in Missouri while she continued to look for a sustainable living situation for the two of them. Recently, TT has had some hopeful housing prospects and last week she optimistically decided it was time to drive to Missouri to get her daughter. To compound matters, during her drive East, TT’s car broke down in Albuquerque. The estimated cost of repair is between $3000 -$5000. TT made it to Missouri over the weekend and would like to come back to Santa Monica within a week so her daughter can return to school, and TT can resume work. Without an automobile, this is an even harder hill to climb than before. We'd love to show them that they are not alone. They are cared about, supported, and valued members of our community. We are raising these funds to ease TT's burden and give them a safe place to land. All funds raised will go directly to TT to be used to repair the car, help with the first month's rent, a security deposit, furnishings (they have none) and perhaps pay down some of the debt incurred from months of hotel bills. Anything that you can give will be considered a blessing.
