Words from Ken Warner, Jim's brother:

-Jim “Bonus: Warner lived his life on the edge from start to finish. He was an avid mountain biker and the most passionate skier that I have ever known. My brother and I were fortunate to have been raised from an early age skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows. My late parents, Bob & Ann Warner starting working at Mt Hood Meadows on weekends at about the time Mt Hood Meadows opened in the late 60’s. Jim and I were mainstays at the mountain every weekend of the season. Jim’s passion for skiing never left for one minute of his life. I am not sure that there is anyone around that spent more time on that mountain than my brother Jim. His passion was endless for the sport of skiing.

On March 28th Jim suffered a heart attack while doing what he loved, skiing the powder at Mt Hood Meadows. Due to Jim’s courageous efforts he was able to get to a Ski Patrol for help. Fourty five seconds after reaching the Ski Patrol and letting him know he was not feeling well Jim lost consciousness. On this day the ski gods were with Jim as the Ski Patrol, Mt Hood Meadows medical staff, AMR Ambulance staff and Life Flight were able to revive Jim and get him to Portland Adventist Medical Center in Portland. Once onsite at Portland Adventist Medical Center Dr. Chelsky and the cardiac team were able to get Jim back on his feet (in 3 days) by placing two stents to repair the two clogged arteries that had caused the heart attack.

Jim was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, March 31st.

On Sunday April 3rd, while resting at his home Jim encountered another heart attack. With valiant efforts from an unknown passerby who performed CPR, EMT’s and once again Life Flight Jim was transported back to Portland Adventist Medical Center. With the combined efforts of Dr Spilk, Dr Chelsky the sensational efforts of Dr. McCord and the entire ICU staff Jim put up a valiant fight for his life over the next few days. Jim passed away at Portland Adventist Medical Center.

As we all know the cost of medical bills can be very large in circumstances like these. Jim did live his life on the edge and the living on the edge lifestyle also included the financial side of this life. While Jim has now left us to be in a better place unfortunately his family has been left behind with catastrophic bills. Jim did not have medical insurance and the family is in dire need of financial assistance to help with the medical costs for heart surgery and a lengthy stay in the Intensive Care Unit, along with 2 transports by Life Flight (the first bill received is $35,000)
