I am a divorced Dad of two wonderful daughters that I love very much. Through the divorce I willingly gave up a lot because I wanted my daughters to have as stable of a transition as possible. However, one of the rights I gave up was a say in their education. In my wildest dreams I never thought that would be an issue. My ex proceeded to take the steps to take my daughters out of school to be home schooled. Although, home schooling can be a positive experience, my ex was not equipped with the tools to be successful and would be putting my girls at risk.
I proceeded to get an attorney to fight for the girls to stay in school. With a lot of testing that validated that they were not on par with kids being educated in a school, we were in the process of receiving a final decision. However, the judge assigned to our case was under fire and found to be back dating cases so she subsequently resigned. The following is an excert from an article from the Chronicle that was written about this judge and my case .
"Lance Ellington spent nearly two years and tens of thousands of dollars trying to keep his two daughters in public schools when he ex-wife was trying to home-school them. The Tomball businessman found out in March that his case was among those dismissed without warning. By the time he found out in March, the deadline to get the case reinstated had passed. His lawyer told him he would have to start from scratch."
I spent over $44,000 on the case and now because of the judge it was all for nothing. And, there is no recourse to sue a judge for the damages!
The girls are now even more behind both academically and socially and I need the funds to start the case all over. In that each day they get further behind I need to try to get on a fast-track to get them in school.
I am a very involved father and want my girls to have every opportunity afforded for them to succeed. However, I cannot get the funds needed in time without some help.
