T-Shirts for Mont Pleasant MS Students
Donation protected
My name is Steve Balogh and I am a Social Studies teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School in Schenectady, New York. In these trying times of teaching our students virtually, one of the things students are saying they miss the most is the sense of belonging. They are just an avatar on a screen. As teachers, we rarely see the faces of our students. I can recognize their avatar easily, but if I ran into one of my students in the grocery store I wouldn't recognize them at all.
To help build that sense of community, the staff would like to provide every student and teacher with matching t-shirts. The shirts would have our historic clocktower which is visible throughout the school community. Above the clocktower is "Mont Pleasant" and below it would be "#SchenectadyStrong". Throughout the year we would designate a few days as "Wear your MPMS shirt" day. We would encourage kids to turn on their cameras (if possible) and proudly show their shirt. We know this would bring excitement and provide a connection to our school. Teachers that have sent little rewards to their students this year have stated they can hear and see the excitement kids have when they feel special. Please help our kids feel special during these times. All they want is to come back to school. Since we can't do that, this would help feel special.
Our goal is to raise $2880 since we have roughly 800 students and staff, and the price for shirts is $3.60 each. Just $11 will buy three shirts and bring a few smiles. Anyone donating $55 will get a shirt mailed to them. (please email at my gmail account, which is sjb1212 with size and mailing address). Any funds we receive above our targeted goal will be used to fund incentives to help improve our student's attendance.
Our deadline for our goal is January 20. This will give us time to gather sizes, have our vendor order and print shirts, and have them delivered so kids can wear them the day before February recess begins.
