Save Myrna Coan's Ride

Hello my name is Cory and I am one of many sons and daughters of Myrna and William Coan. This is my plea for my mother. My mom is 76 years old this year. She has raised many kids on her own and helped raise and support a couple of adopted kids and multiple step kids to some degree. She has 13 grandkids and 23 great grandkids.

As of January 13th her beloved husband of 30 plus years passed away. My dad Bill Coan provided for me and all of the other children over the years in many ways or another, mostly financial, by providing cash or a roof to stay under. Also by being steadfast in his unconditional love. He always accepted an apology if you did him wrong and never held a grudge towards his children. My mom and dad always sacrificed their own needs to help the kids and grandkids.

My dad left a small amount of life insurance for my mom to cover his death and burial expenses. He also paid for insurance on their car in case something happened to him. Unfortunately, it turns out the bank or the sales people glossed over the coverage and didn't explain the fine print to him very well. The fine print states that the insurance will only pay a percentage of the car, depending how long you pay on it. The reason I believe they did not explain this well is because apparently the car loan would have been paid off before they got to 100% insurance pay-off.

Dad tried to provide for his wife but it appears that my Mom's income has been depleted by over 75% due to his death. Between the car payment and rent, the amount exceeds her monthly retirement income. She has a Doctor's appointment once a month to have a needle inserted to her eyeball due to glaucoma and Macular Degeneration. She is currently blind in one eye and almost blind in the other. So she is unable to drive and after these appointments, it requires she takes it easy for the remainder of the day.

She is also in need of two knee replacement surgeries this year and has weekly doctor appointments for other things.

My brother is committed to helping her with her needs by driving her around to her appointments and helping her at her house. He is currently and for the foreseeable future, on disability for less than $1,000 a month due to a near fatal heart attack as well as disc degenerative disease. He is in constant daily pain and is unable to work or return to work in any capacity any time soon.

My mother has been exceedingly generous with not just her family over the years, but with many others as well. She's the type of person who has never met a stranger nor someone who's life she has not touched in some positive or loving way. Her ongoing generosity, unconditional love and support towards others, as well as her unselfishness has been not just a source of pride to each of us in the family, but an inspiration as well. We would like to give something back in a way that will make a long term difference in her daily life.

I have never done a crowd funding project before. It is my hope that by doing this and sending it to friends, family, and anyone who can donate, that it will all add up to making a real impact for my mother. And that it will hopefully help to supply her with a used yet reliable vehicle.

Currently, our goal is to achieve a fund raising amount of $17,000. This amount will first go to the fees of the crowdfunding site (they have to get paid too and we are grateful for their site so we have a real shot at doing this) the rest goes towards the vehicle (it is a dependable vehicle).  This way my mother can continue to make her Doctor appointments and live the rest of her life better.

Please, if you're able to donate anything no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated by all of us in the family. We will leave this site up for 2-3 months. If we don't reach our goal by then I don't believe she'll be able to budget the cost any longer and we will move onto plan B (still under construction).

Thank you for your consideration! Each one of us has the abillity by doing something in a small way that will impact someone I dearly love, and that many, many other people also love, in a huge and profound way.
