Trying to Rebuild After a Life-Changing Accident-

This is something a few people thought would help me and I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but life has brought me to one of the hardest moments I’ve ever faced.

A few months ago, my 10-year-old son Royce and I were in a serious car accident that changed everything. The cause of the accident was pure exhaustion. I had been under so much stress, running on almost no sleep, and trying to keep up with everything happening in my life. While waiting at a stoplight, my body simply gave out, and I fell asleep for a split second. My car rolled forward into the intersection during a turn, and in that instant, everything changed.

The impact was severe. In nearby security footage, you can see the moment I slammed into the steering wheel and was thrown around inside the car. I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt—a mistake I’ll never make again—and I was knocked unconscious. Royce, thankfully, was in the back seat wearing his seatbelt, which really helped make sure he wasn't hurt too bad, but he was so scared seeing me making noises and not being awake.

When I came to, I couldn’t see and could barely move. My only thought was finding my son. I tried to crawl toward him but couldn’t stand on my injured leg. Thankfully, some bystanders rushed in, pulled Royce from the car, and helped get us both to safety. Every time I tried to sit up, all I wanted to do was comfort him before I nearly passed out again. It was the one moment in my life where I couldn’t protect or save my son myself, and that realization hit me harder than anything.

Since then, life has been an uphill battle. I suffered a severe concussion and nerve damage in my neck, which has kept me out of work for over two months. My car was completely totaled, and my insurance doesn’t cover it—only the other person’s vehicle. Without a car, I’ve lost my only way to get to work and to transport my kids to school and activities, as well as struggling to get to all my physical therapy, neurologist appointments, MRIs, and CT scans that cost over $13,500. Insurance helped with quite a bit of the medical but definitely not all of it.

On top of that, my wife and I recently separated, took everyone and most of our things, leaving me barely with anything, and I have to be out of our home by December 1st. I have no vehicle, no savings, and nowhere stable to go. I’m being forced to return to work against my doctor’s advice simply because I need income.

I’ve always been someone who figures things out and never asks for help, but right now, I’m out of options. My first step in rebuilding my life is getting a reliable vehicle so I can get back to work, care for my kids, and start moving forward again.
