Trying to keep positive while drowning

my name is Elaine Schulte and I’m asking for financial help. The last two years we have been hit with some pretty major medical issues. Our youngest son Bruce is our primary caretaker which is a full-time job. We are in the process of combining household to help with our expenses. Bruce has already sold all of his vehicles and we are down to only my van. We have a family couldn’t have imagined ourselves in this position yet here we are.

Our issues began in August 2022 when I went in for a pacemaker placement and ablation only to become unable to walk three days later. I have to be moved with a Hoyer lift in and out of bed in and out of the car and Bruce has to dress me and bathe me as I’m unable to do it myself. It took several months after the procedure to find out that I had a minor stroke and I’m currently currently wheelchair bound.

The other major health issue happened in June of this year when my husband Bill fell backwards landing on one of our animals which caused his to fracture at t9-t10 leaving him a paraplegic. They perform surgery to stabilize the spine fracture on 9 June and since then we have been in a total of four separate medical facilities dealing with a list of medical issues. He has been on and off of a ventilator and went into respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest and has fought with everything has to be here as he does not want to leave us. He is currently a patient of Baylor Scott and White long-term acute care facility in Temple and it’s being weaned off of ventilator but it’s also still having other medical issues. As far as the prognosis it’s gonna be a long road which he is willing to travel and fight to stay here with us.

Throughout these last two years of medical problems we’ve also been faced with some rough decisions that we’ve had to make and major expenses we’ve had to pay.

We are waiting on the Explanation of Benefits from Medicare and our BCBS as to what they are going to pay if anything for Care Fight Ground who moved him back to Temple from Medical City Alliance. It was 4700.00. We know Medicare only pays for the first 10 miles and we know we will have to pay for 125 miles.

This last month we were faced with the decision as to which house we would have electricity in and which one we wouldn’t.  We agreed to the electricity on the main property should remain on as it needs to be operating when Bill comes home. As far as the electricity at Bruce’s We will not be able to get it turned on anytime soon.

Each month we pay our house payment, van payment, and Bruce orders all of the supplies that he needs to take care of me daily and then get groceries we have very little left to have enough to go to Temple to see Bill.

I am so grateful for Blaine and Tammy and their kids as they are only 30 minutes from Bill. Blaine goes when he gets a chance and Tammy goes some after she has taught all day and their girls go when they can. I don’t know what I would do without them and without Bruce .

The main goal for our family is to get my husband well and home where he wants to be. Any assistance is greatly appreciated !!
