After hearing the story of one of our work colleagues (Neil Starkey) on how his sister (Jen, single mum of 2) was cruelly taken by cancer within 12 months of diagnosis, leaving behind 2 little children (Isabella & Elijah) we knew we had to do something to help.
Myself (Jamie Rae) Chris Watkinson and Kev Walton have signed up to do the 15km Tough Mudder on Saturday 10th September 2022 with the intentions of raising £6500 so we can send the children to Disney Land in 2023, something Jen always dreamed of doing.
Neil found this very difficult to do, but he’s managed to put a timeline together. I shed a tear and being a parent myself, this really hit home…….
One of life’s biggest lessons for me, don’t ever think this can’t happen to you……
Jen was a fit and well, single mum of two young children, Isabella (12) and Elijah (10). Following some mild symptoms that most people would just put down to minor food tolerances during the summer of 2021, Jen’s life was about to be turned upside down. After some further investigations over the proceeding few months, Jen was diagnosed in October with stage 3 Neuro Endocrine Cancer (NET cancer).
Due to the extent of tumours found mainly in her liver, Jen was placed in palliative care. As part of her initial treatment plan to try to prolong and improve her way of life, Jen went through chemo and took numerous herbal remedies and changes to her diet with the aid of her family.
Unfortunately over the next few months of treatment, it was found that the chemo had not worked and the cancer had spread (stage 4). Due to her liver subsequently not functioning properly, it started to cause excess fluid around her body and led to her mobility becoming reduced where she would eventually be restricted to not being able to walk alone.
On 23rd May, Jen turned the age of 42 and celebrated what would be her last birthday with her family and friends at a memorable occasion. The next few weeks would see a deterioration in Jen’s health and despite fighting all the way, Jen unfortunately lost her battle with cancer and passed away on 14th June 2022 with her family besides her.
Jen lived life to the full, however she left our world too early with things that she wanted to do with her two young children which she never got round to achieving.
Jen will never be forgotten and will live long in the memory of those who had the pleasure of meeting her.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil (Cancer) is for good men to do nothing…….
Help us bring a smile to the childrens faces by sending them to Disney World, something their mum dreamed of doing, but will sadly never get to do.
With your help, we hope to achieve this dream. Please, give whatever you can, thank you
