Trusting God's Path: Supporting Kyoyeon’s Family

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Kyoyeon, who departed this world on August 6, 2025, at 5:59 AM, surrounded by his family and church community. He was just 36 years old.

Kyoyeon’s journey began on July 2, 2025, when he was rushed to the ER at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose and diagnosed with acute liver failure. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the ICU at CPMC in San Francisco on July 4, where he also suffered severe lung failure on the very next day. During this time, the possibility of a liver transplant was considered, but further testing led to a devastating diagnosis: Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and aggressive autoimmune disorder in which the body’s own immune system attacks vital organs.

With this diagnosis, Kyoyeon was transferred to UCSF Parnassus under the care of hematology specialist Dr. Jerry Lee, one of the foremost experts in HLH. Despite an intense series of treatments, including chemotherapy, Kyoyeon’s body was unable to recover from the escalating organ failure. He spent over a month and a half in the hospital, courageously fighting for his life.

Kyoyeon leaves behind his loving wife, Soyul, and their 4-year-old son, Ian, who carries his father’s bright smile and positive spirit—one that could lift the hearts of anyone around him. Since arriving in the U.S. in 2016, Soyul has stood by Kyoyeon’s side through every hardship with unwavering love and devotion.

Due to visa complications that cannot be resolved, Kyoyeon's family will now be returning to their home country during this incredibly difficult time. We ask for your prayers, love, and support—especially for young Ian, who now begins a new chapter without his father. It is in moments like these that we rely on faith, hope, and the kindness of others to guide those left behind.

We trust that our Lord has welcomed Kyoyeon into Heaven, and we pray that His righteous path continues to unfold for his family.
