A story of unwavering strength and determination....
In 2019, April Fowler mentioned some pain under her arm during a routine doctor’s appointment.
She was 33 years old when she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer.
Not long after, as doctors prepared to place her chemotherapy port, they discovered something unexpected. April was pregnant with their third child!!
Because her cancer was fueled by hormones, doctors began chemotherapy during her second trimester.
Then, halfway through her pregnancy, another devastating diagnosis.
Her unborn daughter, Ivy, had a complex congenital heart defect and would need open-heart surgery shortly after birth.
When Ivy was just 2 days old, she was transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for her first open-heart surgery.
She would eventually have three before turning 4.
April, a nurse and her husband Matthew a law enforcement officer, did everything they could to keep their family moving forward.
Years later, after Ivy’s Make-A-Wish trip to Hawaii, the family finally had a chance to celebrate.
On the flight home, April started feeling pain.
A CT scan revealed multiple lesions.
The biopsy confirmed her breast cancer had returned.
This time, it was Stage 4.
Since then, April has continued chemotherapy and radiation while working on an oncology floor, caring for cancer patients as she fights cancer herself.
She also continued her education and is set to graduate as a registered nurse on August 6!
Now her family and friends are asking the community to rally around April and Matthew, who have spent years caring for everyone else.
A benefit car and motorcycle show will be held October 17 to help support April, her husband, and their three daughters as they continue this journey.
April's story is getting lots of attention through social media thanks to the help of local journalists in the community! Several kind people have asked how they can help even though they can not attend the benefit car show. If you would like to help the Fowler family during this trying time, please consider making a monetary donation to help with any costs associated with April's treatment!
Please join me in sending this amazing family all of your love and prayers.
