Trussie’s Emergency Recovery & Car Fund
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This is Mars/Trussie, and I’m an LA DJ, producer & arts organizer. After a gig on Saturday March 30st, I hydroplaned in the pouring rain and ping-ponged off the walls of the oldest freeway in America (the 110), totaling my car.
I collided with the walls of the Arroyo Seco 3 times, causing the entire front of my car to get crushed, my airbags deployed, and my axels broken.
I am alive, though pretty badly banged up. After an urgent care visit, I have a mild concussion, inflamed ribs, whiplash, and bad musculoskeletal bruising all over my abdomen, arms and legs. I also sustained some hearing loss, which is causing me grief as a producer and DJ. I am so thankful that I can still walk and talk, albeit slower than I used to.
It seems pretty clear that the car, a used 2016 Honda Fit, is totaled and beyond salvageable. My insurance is valuation is in process, and with a conservative estimate, I know I will be down at least $10k to get another used car. Once the valuation is complete I will be updating this GoFundMe with an adjusted goal.
As I am a trans woman of color, I have been saving what small money I can in this insanely expensive world towards gender affirming surgeries that seem more distant now than ever. I know I need to commit what I have saved towards my recovery and my next used car, but I do not have the $15k I would need for a used car and full recovery all myself. This is where I need your help.
Funds will be used to support my physical healing (physical therapy, medication, and takeout until I can cook for myself again), my used car fund (adjustments to be made for my car valuation, my deductible, and the market rate of used hatchbacks with ~80k miles). If there's any extra, that will be invested in gear to keep my side job revenue generation afloat. As GFM takes 3% of raised proceeds, I have added 3% on to the total here. Again, it's hard to put a dollar price on your recovery and survival, especially as a mildly concussed girl who is bad at math.
I am alive, and I am still here, and for that I am so truly thankful. In moments like these, we need the support of our communities to keep us afloat. As a doll, this is a fact about the world that I have had to learn the hard way, unfortunately. Dolls are vulnerable, we don't get paid what we should; we have to scrape and grind for the few opportunities we do get and supplement however we can to make rent. I am so lucky in my life, and still I am not exempt from living my life like this. If you love trans people, I seriously urge you to ask yourself what you have done to make the lives of your trans friends safer, more equitable, and less lonely.
Please, please donate if you can, whatever small amount will be invaluable in getting me back on my feet and back into the world. If you have a party, a bar, or a rave, please book me, my DJ books are open especially for paid gigs, and I hope to be raising money from DJing to support my medical and auto bills following this emergency. And if you are not in the position to donate, sharing and texting this link to your friends is genuinely so helpful.
More updates from mars to come. I love you, thank you for reading this.
