Judy’s Helping Hand for a Helping Soul

My name is Nicole and I am from Los Angeles, California. My mother, Judy Kaczender, has been the most the most selfless driving force in my life. She is a dedicated animal rights activist as well as an experienced professional in the entertainment industry for forty-five years. Two years after losing her husband (my father) to Kidney Cancer, I visited my mother in Budapest for the Christmas Holidays and together we learned she diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. Devastated and scared, we took immediate action.

The Hungarian doctors urged to operate immediately, but after a trip to Israel for a second opinion, it was discovered that the tumor was misdiagnosed and any operation would have been fatal. The tumor, which was in her colon, had metastasized to her liver. A grueling year of Chemotherapy and various cocktails of drugs, followed this diagnosis, which took an incredible toll on Judy’s health and spirit, but finally the doctors felt comfortable operating. They made sure to warn us that this operation had yet to be performed in the past but we held onto our hope. The Israeli doctors removed an 11-pound tumor from Judy as well as part of her colon and liver, before attaching her small intestine to her large, so that her organs may function properly. Judy recovered from the surgery, and we were told the cancer was gone.

Three months later (and recently), during a post-op, we discovered that her cancer has returned, and she needs to go back to intensive treatment. Because we sought to save her life in Israel, the US Government refuses to provide any medical care or social help for my mother, which breaks our hearts and faith in America as she spent over two thirds of her life as a creative producer in California State. My mother is my light and strength... she worked tirelessly my entire childhood (and adulthood) to make sure she provided for me and anyone else she could help. My friends can all attest to the fact that she bends over backwards to not only be a mother for me, but a mother for them as well. This is not what she deserves. She should be fighting to stay healthy and alive instead of fighting for dignity and trying to find a way to pay her rent and feed her dogs.

Despite her diagnosis, Judy still spends time helping others. We need Judy to stay strong and we are asking the community to help us keep her in the hands of competent medical professionals, and without the added stress of bills that she is currently not healthy enough to provide for. She is a loving soul, and a single parent—my only parent—and deserves so much more, please find it in your hearts to help us heal. All proceeds from this fund are going directly to Judy for her direct use to cover living expenses of both her and her animals while she faces this seemingly impenetrable wall of healthcare. Thank you so much for taking time from your day to read this—even if you cannot donate financially, please send your thoughts and prayers, we are humbled in appreciation.
